DMZ’s 8th Birthday

I remember going to DMZ’s 2nd Birthday courtesy of a friend of mine, J Bliss who actually played me my first dubstep track a few months beforehand. I was hooked on this new sound and was told there was no better way to experience the music than at a DMZ event. Back in the day when Myspace was king of the social media game, the DMZ  birthday events was always the highlight of the calendar, with the epic queues round the block, and the equally impressive venue, backed up by the mammouth line-up, the DMZ birthday event was like the dubstep Mecca.

It is safe to say that the dubstep scene has changed massively over the past 8 years and there are many new names and sounds of dubstep on the block, even evident is the progression of the sound shown by what Loefah has persued with his record label Swamp 81 and newer imprint School, aiming at the housier end of the spectrum. With the current boom of UK house music, to some, dubstep has become a dirty word, but DMZ shall never suffer that fate, one of the most widely respected labels, crews and events, Mala, Coki, Sgt Pokes and Loefah when combined continue to fly the flag for the true heads and the clean sounds that is DMZ.

With the line-up currently disclosed, never fear, as you are guaranteed to witness the top players in the game and no doubt there will be a few extra surprises as well. Also for the first time ever DMZ is being held at the Great Suffolk Street warehouse space, one of London’s rawest spaces with a number of options for rooms and scope for a huge sound system.
