Leftwing & Kody – ‘You Were’ EP – OFF Recordings
Leftwing & Kody return to OFF Recordings imprint after huge success with their debut ‘Bump and Flex’ EP in 2012. The pair’s work reminds me of classic material usually found on labels such as Public Demand, Swing City and Ice Cream Records, but with a modern day nod to UK House/Bass music, which is currently enjoying a rich vain of creativity at the moment, championed by artists like Breach, Citizen, Ejeca, Huxley and T.Williams.
Leftwing & Kody have gained a huge a following and big name support from Bicep, Dusky, Shadow Child, James Zabiela and even the legendary Groove Armada, all in a short space of time. The lead track ‘You Were’ is my favorite pick here, already gaining heavy rotation from array of DJ’s including French based production duo Amine Edge & DANCE (CUFF) in their recent sets. Pounding basslines, catchy synths and plenty of swinging hats, form a simple but effective template, which allows space for a well-chosen 90’s inspired female vocal to breathe masterful. ‘You Were’ is sure to be a popular choice on many dancefloors globally.
‘Burning Up’ is another peak time cut, aided with more catchy female vocals samples with penetrating basslines, demonstrating more evidence of Leftwing & Kody’s tight productions. Coat of Arms takes up the remix duties of ‘Burning Up’ aimed to please those who crave a deeper vibe.
‘You Were’ EP is available on OFF Recordings – 6/3/2013
