A new campaign from adidas Originals featuring Pharrell Williams, David Beckham, Rita Ora and Damian Lillard sets out to question what it means to be a superstar.
The brilliantly produced video celebrates 45 years of the Superstar, which was originally designed as a basketball sneaker but has become one of the most instantly recognisable footwear silhouettes of all time, ubiquitous in all aspects of street culture. It turned heads when first launched in 1969, with the now iconic design, non marking sole and revolutionary rubber shell toe piece quickly cementing the shoe as a favourite of sneaker fans both on and off the basketball court.
The entirely black and white campaign aims to reclaim the word “Superstar”, which it surmises has been corrupted to the point of confusion – the musicians, sportsmen and fashion figureheads telling you everything it doesn’t mean. There are still 6 more spots to come in the #OriginalSuperstar series, which will also launch Pharrell’s adidas Supercolor line that was teased last year. View part 1 for yourself.
