Ones2Watch Mix | Hybrid Theory
This weeks #Ones2Watch mix courtesy of the Urban Nerds comes from Hybrid Theory, originally a one man band they have now become a duo. They are fast gaining support from the likes of 1xtra right through to Rinse FM and Eton Messy. Creating eclectic Garage and House vibes with tight shuffling drum patterns, you can expect to be hearing a lot from him this year. There’s only one way to find out check out the mix and see what they are about.
What has Hybrid Theory been up to as of late?
I suppose the biggest thing is that Hybrid Theory has become a duo. I have been joined by my good friend Aiden Smith and we have been busy in the studio working on loads of new tracks as well as remixes for Four40 and Rinse.
Whats your favourite track at the moment?
That’s a tough question to be honest, there is so much good music around at the moment right across the board. I think it would have to be Tchami – Promesses feat. Kaleem Taylor
What is your favourite track of all time?
That’s a tough one but probably Goldie – Inner City Life I love that record.
What was the first Vinyl you ever bought?
Bit of a guilty pleasure, I’m pretty sure it was Sash – Encore un Fois around 1997
What music was played in your house when you were growing up?
I grew up in the 80s/90s so a real mix of different genres really. My dad was a big Motown fan and my mum was into a lot of early Reggae stuff. But anything in between as well early hiphop and RnB as well as early dance music. A pretty eclectic mix really.
Who are your inspirations in music?
My inspirations come from early house and garage producers. These are the people I grew up listening to – Wookie, MK, Jeremy Sylvester, Grant Nelson, Liam Howlett. Too many to list.
Who would you like to collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate with Wookie or Liam Howlett.
Whose sets do you like to catch at a rave or on radio?
Radio I’m an avid listener to the Rinse podcasts and always catch Oneman, Brackles and 0231. In the rave our local Birmingham residents are really pushing the boundaries people like Cause & Affect, Pete Graham and Tom Shorterz.
Whats been the highlight for you so far?
Seeing our track So High reach over 50k views on Eton Messy earlier this year was amazing. And being supported by artists and
DJs who we aspire to, across radio and clubland, DJs like Marcus Nasty, Oneman, Brackles, Toddla T.
Top 3 artists to watch?
There is so many artists we are feeling at the moment, but to narrow it down – Suck Fake, Low Steppa and Tom Shorterz.
What does Hybrid Theory like to drink?
Magners with ice, jobs a gooden.
What are your favourite past times outside of music?
This might sound a bit corny, but just the usual things that we probably take for granted. Chilling with friends, cinema, xbox.
5 things you always carry on you?
Keys, Lighter, Wallet, Phone and a usb stick
Top 3 guilty pleasures..
Masterchef and any other cookery programmes, Speed Garage and handbag House music
If you were on death row what would your last meal be?
I think it would have to be a classic steak and chips.
Whats next in the pipeline for you?
We are working towards our EP on Four40 hopefully be dropping Nov/Dec time, and we have a few remixes dropping before the years out.
