This week’s ‘Trainer of the Week’ is the Puma States available in three colour-ways, making up the ‘Reissue’ Pack. The States appear as a pared down iteration of the original silhouette, reverting back to the aesthetic of the 80’s construction. Puma’s rich heritage was particularly prominent throughout the 1970’s and 80’s through the association with the emergence of Hip-Hop and B-Boy culture in America. The movement expanded across the Atlantic to the UK, however the kicks synonymous with the movement didn’t follow, leading to an influx of British residents travelling to America to stock up on the iconic urban style, which lead to them being coined the ‘States’.
Since its revival in 2011 courtesy of Puma ‘Shadow Society’, the Puma States returns for 2014. With more of an emphasis placed on it’s classic street styles, the Puma States are reissued in New Navy, Pine and Red Ribbon for Spring/Summer. The iconic silhouette has luxurious suede applied to the sleek minimal upper, there are minimal panels and seams on the premium suede upper, only appearing on the eyestay and heel tab giving it a clean aesthetic and providing maximum comfort. The Upper is accented with contrast creme reinforced leather Puma stripe on the sidewalls and branding on the heel tab.
Below the high quality uppers sits a contrast off white sole unit, with a textured rubber outsole beneath giving the classic silhouette a vintage edge. More subtle design features include: a foam backed tongue for added support and comfort, tonal wide flat laces, foil Puma branding on the outer sidewalls and an additional pair of wide flat white laces with each pair.
