This week’s ‘Trainer of the Week’ is the 2014 reissue of the Nike Air Raid appearing in it’s original Black/Flint colour-way 22 years after it’s initial release in 1992 as an ‘Outdoor Basketball Shoe’.
The Nike Air Raid, designed by Tinker Hatfield, wads Nike’s first Basketball silhouette marketed for the streets; the Air Raid appears to be an outdoor, more durable iteration of the Air Jordan VIII. The upper consists a black tumbled leather body, mesh ventilation panels and synthetic and suede overlays, sitting underneath a flint, nylon cross-foot strapping system for added stability on the court, also providing a tough aesthetic. The unique PU white midsole with an encapsulated Air-Sole unit worked into the heel for lightweight cushioning accents the silhouette, finished with a patterned rubber outsole providing traction and durability.
