This week’s Trainer of the Week is the Puma x BWGH XS698 appearing in Madder Brown. The limited edition XS698 is one of the four footwear styles that arrived in the first half of the collaborative ‘Joy’ Collection; a capsule line of clothing and footwear from the combined efforts of Puma and Parisian label Brooklyn We Go Hard. Following the success of the S/S 2014 ‘Bluefield’ Capsule Collection Puma and BWGH team up to produce a line of reworked retro archive silhouettes to sit alongside a collection of clothing for Fall/Winter. The capsule drop features athletic 90’s inspired runners twinned with muted tones and the application of terry loop cotton worked onto the technical panelling of the archive XS850 and the hybrid XS698. Both silhouettes are finished in rich tonal colour-ways assembled from suede, mesh and chenille.
The XS698 is a hybrid of the XS-850 and R-698; combining aspects from both models for a unique aesthetic, whilst still maintaining the aesthetic of classically styled early 1990s performance silhouettes. The XS698 that emerged as one of the first styles to drop under the Puma ‘CREAM’ tier receives a premium make-over from Parisian label BWGH. Inspired by Ethan Cook’s abstract expressionist paintings the trainer relays Cook’s use of intensely pure colours. The upper panels are constructed from premium suede with the mesh panel and suede overlays at the fore foot and leather lining appearing in different shade of red tied together with a loop terry cotton form stripe tying the premium blend of materials on the silhouette together. Underfoot is a Trinomic contrasting white midsole accented with madder brown heel counter, finished with a tonal gum outsole. Available with one pair of tonal laces and one pair of mottled laces.
